What is a Chemical Peel?
A chemical peel is a non-invasive skin care treatment that is used to reduce fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots and other imperfections. This medical-grade treatment uses an acid-based solution to remove the outer layer of skin. In addition, it stimulates new cell growth, which is the catalyst for beautiful, healthy looking skin.
There are several grades of chemical peels, so to determine which one is best for you, call us to set up a complimentary consultation with one of our surgeons or browse a variety of chemical peel before and after pictures. We would also be happy to discuss chemical peel prices in Santa Clara or any other questions or concerns you might have, so give us a call today.
How is a Chemical Peel Performed?
Depending on the severity of your skin’s imperfections, you will choose one of three levels of chemical peels – superficial, medium or deep. While there is no anesthesia necessary for the lighter of the three, it may not yield the best results. Regardless of which one you choose, the procedure remains the same. Your technician will apply the chemical solution to the treatment area, allowing to penetrate deep into the skin and stimulate new cell growth.
Am I a Good Candidate for a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peel treatments are highly effective in treating the following:
• Fine lines
• Light acne scarring
• Rough or scaly skin
• Brown spots and other sun damage
However, a chemical peel is not the solution for deep wrinkles or loose, sagging skin. In addition, those with red hair and pale skin, Afro-Caribbean or Asian skin, abnormal pigmentation or a history of skin scarring may not be suitable candidates for this procedure.
What Kind of Post-Operative Chemical Peel Care Can I Expect?
A superficial chemical peel in San Jose may result in a pinkish hue of the treatment area and/or some white blotches, which should fade after a few hours. A medium-depth or deep peel may result in more redness, swelling or tightening of the skin, but can be eased by applying petroleum jelly several times of day. All levels of treatment may leave you with some flaking skin for a few days but you should not pick at your skin as this could cause scarring.
Wash your face using only water, and always apply a high SPF if going out in the sun to prevent any further sun damage. Superficial chemical peels should be repeated weekly for four to six weeks and then maintained by going once a month. Medium-depth peels should be repeated every six to 12 months. And deep chemical peels requires little to no follow up, with results lasting as long as 10 years.
What are the Typical Results of a Chemical Peel?
Chemical peels are used to rejuvenate the skin, giving patients a more youthful glow. But every patient is different, and results will vary depending on the level of peel you choose. To see results you can likely expect, please look through a variety of chemical peel before and after photos.
What are Chemical Peel Costs?
Chemical peel costs are based on the treatment you choose, whether it’s a superficial, medium or deep peel. You can discuss these three options in more detail with your surgeon during your initial consultation. At this time, feel free to ask any questions or voice any concerns, as we want to make sure all of our patients are educated and prepared for the treatments they elect.
