What is Laser Scar Removal?

Scars form when there is either too much or too little collagen that forms during the healing process of a wound. And often times, unsightly scars are a source of embarrassment. Here at Réviance®, we are happy to offer laser scar removal, a procedure that uses state-of-the-art technology to reduce or eliminate the appearance of your scar.

Every procedure is unique, so please give us a call to discuss your specific case or to inquire about laser scar removal costs. We also suggest browsing some laser scar removal before and after pictures as a visual aid.

How is Laser Scar Removal Performed?

The laser scar removal procedure involves different techniques, depending on the type of scar you have and how severe it is. Generally, it is performed using a local anesthetic. If it is more of a surface scar, your technician will most likely use the laser to target the outer layer of skin, removing these skin cells and making way for the underlying, healthier-looking skin. If the scar is deeper, the laser may be used to target deeper layers of skin in order to stimulate collagen growth, in effect improving the scar’s appearance from below the surface.

Am I a Good Candidate for Laser Scar Remova?

If you have one of the following types of scars and it is causing you to be self-conscious, you may be a good candidate for laser scar removal in Palo Alto, Saratoga.

• Atrophic scarring (depressed, pin-like pockets of the skin that develop from acne or other skin conditions)
• Hypertrophic scarring (pinkish scars that are firm and raised, which may fade over time)
• Keloid scarring (firm, raised scars that are reddish-purple in color and tend to expand beyond the wound area over time)

Discuss your medical history with your doctor prior to this procedure, as certain medications and skin conditions may preclude you from laser scar removal.

What Kind of Post-Operative Laser Scar Removal Care Can I Expect?

Following your laser scar removal treatment, your doctor will give you specific skin care instructions. This may include the use of antibiotic ointment to prevent any infections. If you’re feeling some discomfort, your doctor may prescribe you some pain medication. Alternatively, a cooling mask generally eases the pain. Your skin cell regeneration process should begin as soon as four days after your treatment, and you’ll be back to your normal activities in no time. Follow-up appointments will need to be scheduled about six to eight weeks after your laser scar removal procedure so your doctor can monitor the healing process.

What are the Typical Results of Laser Scar Removal?

Laser scar removal treatment is very effective in reducing the appearance of most types of scars. In fact, it has been known to reduce the appearance by about 50 to 89 percent, and can even help prevent their recurrence. While scars may not completely disappear, you can see in our laser scar removal before and after pictures that this procedure can make a dramatic improvement.
