What is an Ultrasound Facelift (Ulthera)?
One procedure that is gaining popularity with our busy Bay Area patients in the Palo Alto, San Jose, Los Gatos, and surrounding areas is the ultrasound facelift, also known as Ulthera. This procedure is perfect for those who have descended brows and / or skin laxity in their face and neck, but do not want to go ‘under the knife.’ Using high-intensity focused ultrasound technology, this treatment triggers the body’s own regenerative process, making way for a younger appearance. Ulthera is the first noninvasive technology that uses focused ultrasound for brow lifting, skin tightening, skin lifting, and skin firming on the face and neck.

How is an Ultrasound Facelift (Ulthera) Performed?
Using ultrasound technology, the ultrasound facelift (Ulthera) works to manipulate the same layer of tissue underneath the skin (i.e., the SMAS layer) that surgeons normally manipulate during a surgical facelift. This FDA-approved technology, however, allows for tissue tightening without the need for surgery. The Ultherapy device delivers heat to the treatment area, stimulating the inner layers of skin and underlying tissues to regenerate new collagen without affecting the outer layers. There is no cutting, no bleeding, no general anesthesia — factors typically associated with more invasive procedures. Treatment time is approximately one hour if treating the full face. Typically, there is no associated downtime.
Many of our staff members have undergone the procedure — please be sure to ask them about the experience of their treatment!
What are the Results of the Ultrasound Facelift (Ulthera)?
While it is important to be realistic in that results will not be at the level of surgical results, many patients can see a noticeable difference after having one treatment. However, full effects are present after four to six months once the regenerative process has a chance to take hold. Patients have reported a lifting and toning of loose skin, especially in the brow, jowls, and neck areas. You can see what a dramatic difference this procedure can make by viewing our ultrasound facelift (Ulthera) before and after pictures.
The improvement in the clinical effects of Ulthera have an underlying molecular basis. Collagen growth and overall clinical improvement in facial tissue tightening have been documented in studies published in major clinical journals.
